Gårdisto begins with a family story rooted in Karelia and a strong connection to the archipelago. It brings together the memory of a home the family was forced to leave, the work on a cabin and a closeness to the sea.
Roots in Karelia
The founder’s family has its roots in Vyborg in Karelia. During the war, the family was forced to leave its home. That upheaval is part of our history and gives us perspective on what it means to have a place to belong.
From that story, Gårdisto draws inspiration for what we want to stand for: hard work, care and resilience in adversity. The past gives us a starting point for what we are building today.
Rune and the cabin
Rune, the founder’s grandfather, built the family’s cabin in the archipelago. The photographs show the house and the work around it. They offer a glimpse into the family’s history, long before Gårdisto existed.
For Gårdisto, there is value in giving work time and attention. It is an approach we want to carry forward: care for the details and respect for what is created.
Gårdisto today
Gårdisto draws inspiration from the Swedish and Finnish archipelagos: two cultures with the sea and the Nordic landscape in common. A connection to nature guides our aesthetic.
Our ambition is to create clothing for everyday life, with understated design and thoughtful details. We want to work with a long-term perspective and give care more weight than fast-moving trends. The family history remains a starting point as the brand takes shape in our own time.
